Since 1992 the principals of REAL Property Group have owned, managed and redeveloped commercial property in the greater Kansas City area. In 2013 REAL Property Group, Inc. was formed as the flagship organization under which development and management functions are conducted for existing and future projects.

Why is REAL capitalized? The reason is simple. We want our name to convey our core values and beliefs about how we conduct business. Not just the real estate business, but all business, even the business of life. We pride ourselves on being REAL. In other words, we value REAL relationships, delivering REAL results on commitments and promises, being REAL honest, communicating REAL clearly and often and generating REAL returns on the investment our tenants and partners make with us in our properties.

    Partner

    Hal S. Shapiro grew up in Kansas City, MO and graduated Center High School in 1978. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Real Estate and Urban Land Economic from the University of Texas at Austin in 1982. He practiced commercial mortgage banking and brokerage with First Bank System/Commonwealth Mortgage in Houston, TX and then with Southwest Capital Investment Corporation in Austin TX. Arranging conventional, permanent loans on commercial property and financings using tax-exempt, multi-family housing revenue bonds was a focus of his work in the mortgage business.

    In 1987 Hal joined the family business in Kansas City, Walker Towel and Uniform Service, an industrial laundry serving western Missouri and eastern Kansas. Hal focused in the areas of production, facilities, environmental and medical regulatory compliance. Hal remains an owner and Board Member of Walker today with his brother, David E. and cousins, Steven and David S.

    In 1992 Hal began acquiring income property in the Kansas City area. A portfolio of properties was assembled and is owned by closely held affiliates. All properties are managed internally. These properties have prospered over the years by value added through aggressive leasing and highly effective management. Highly effective management means very responsive communications, efficient operations and taking pride in tenant satisfaction. Properties types include restaurant, retail, office, multifamily and industrial. Presently, the portfolio has over 130,000 sq. ft. of leasable area. In 2013 Hal returned to the real estate business full-time and REAL Property Group was formed as the umbrella organization for these real estate activities.

    Today, REAL Property Group is focused on walkable, in-fill, mixed-use redevelopments in urban cores. Demographic trends point to more demand for these product types and becoming expert in the multiplicity of tasks needed to get these projects done is what Hal is passionate about at work.
    Hal also serves on the board of the InterUrban ArtHouse in downtown Overland Park, on the board of the Downtown Overland Park Partnership as Vice-President and is a founding member and past President of the 39th St. Community Improvement District serving members on 39th St. between Southwest Trafficway and State Line Rd. In Kansas City, MO.

  • David S. Shapiro

    Partner

    David S. Shapiro grew up in St. Louis, Missouri and graduated from Clayton High School in 1979. After high school David attended the University of Kansas and earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and a minor in Economics. After graduating from University of Kansas, David joined his family business, Walker Towel and Uniform Service, where he is currently the Chief Operating Officer. Walker is a textile rental service company that provides uniforms, linens, mats, and mops to more than 3000 industrial and commercial customers in the Kansas and Missouri area. Since David joined Walker it has grown over 500% with his leadership. Today, David leads Walker in strategic planning and goal setting with a heavy emphasis on building a strong management team. David is one of four shareholders in Walker Towel and Uniform Service.

    David Also serves in an advisory role to REAL Property Group which is led by Hal Shapiro. REAL Property Group operates a portfolio of properties in the Kansas City area. David advises on property development and strategic planning for future projects. David is active in Harvesters, Kaw Valley Center and has served on the Kansas City Hospice and Palliative Care gala committee for the past five years. David is passionate about helping others who are in need.

  • David E. Shapiro

    Partner

    David E. Shapiro is a lifelong resident of the Kansas City area. Growing up in south KCMO David attended and graduated from Center High School in 1984. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Arizona State University.

    In 1992 David joined the family business, Walker Towel and Uniform Service, an industrial textile company servicing western Missouri and eastern Kansas. Presently serving as Walkers CIO and Director of Facilities, he oversees the acquisition, management and maintenance of all facilities and hard assets. David’s strengths are information management, Industrial layout and systems design. David is an owner and Board Member of Walker with his brother, Hal and cousins, Steven and David S.

    In 1995 David, along with his partners began acquiring income property in the Kansas City area. A portfolio of properties was assembled and is owned by closely held affiliates. For nearly 20 years David was responsible for the property maintenance of all properties in the portfolio. Exceptional tenant relations have been the focus of the group since its inception. One of the keys to tenant retention is being accessible and addressing issues in a very timely manner. David has taken great pride in addressing and resolving tenant repair and maintenance needs with the highest priority.

    Today, REAL Property Group is focused on in-fill, mixed-use redevelopments in urban cores. In 2013, Hal Shapiro assumed all day to day real estate responsibilities. David remains a partner and board member of REAL Property Group and serves as consultant in maintenance, acquisition and design.

  • Steven B. Shapiro

    Partner

    Steven B. Shapiro grew up in St. Louis Missouri and graduated from Clayton High School. After high school, Steven became a true Kansas Jayhawk in Lawrence Kansas. At Kansas University he earned a bachelor’s degree in business with a concentration in accounting. While at Kansas he was a member of Phi Kappa Psi fraternity where he is still very active in the chapter. Steven was also the scholarship chairman and sergeant at arms during his four years living in the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity. Today, Steven is Chief Financial Officer at Walker Towel and Uniform where he is responsible for all daily finances, accounting and cash management. Steven is also responsible for the management of some of Walker’s “blue-chip accounts”, providing leadership in relationship building and retention of these customer’s. For nearly 20 years Steven has been active in the management of properties operated by REAL Property Group. His contributions have been in the following areas:

    • Lease negotiations
    • Marketing
    • Collections
    • Security

    Steven loves to spend time with his wife Kathy of over 20 years and their two daughters, Morgan and Jacklin. They love to travel to new places, play golf and spend time with their close family.

  • Jonathan A. DeLisle

    Vice President of Operations

    Jonathan A. DeLisle has been employed with REAL Property Group since 2016. Jonathan moved here from Washington where he received his Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing from the University of Washington. After moving to Kansas, Jonathan began the Master of Entrepreneurial Real Estate program at UMKC. In 2016, he was awarded the SIOR 2016 Olen Monsees Memorial Scholarship which he used to finish his graduate school. In May of 2017, he completed the MERE program and was awarded his Masters.

    Jonathan is responsible for the maintenance and management of all the properties currently in REAL Property Group’s portfolio. Property types include restaurant, retail, office, multifamily and industrial. He works directly with the principals to ensure that operations are in accordance with REAL Property Group standards. He handles the leasing of the apartment buildings and single family homes and works with the principals to manage, create, design and maintain desirable places to live and work.

  • Dianna Parks

    Bookkeeping/ Office Manager

    Dianna has been working with REAL Property Group and its related companies since 2000 in accounts receivable, accounts payable, general ledger, payroll, financial reporting and tax and licensing compliance. Currently she is Bookkeeper and Office Manager for REAL Property Group and its related companies.

    They types of companies Dianna has helped manage range from industrial, office, and retail rental and owner occupied properties as well as residential rental properties. Dianna works closely with all employees and department head as well as the principals to contribute to the team-building management style of REAL property Group.

  • Rickey Smith

    Accounts Receivable / Billing Specialist

    Rickey has worked in the accounts receivable field for 12 years. He is a dynamic, results-driven individual dedicated to a customer-centric culture and business model. Rickey has been working with REAL Property Group since 2013. Currently he specializes in accounts receivable, collections, and general customer service duties. Rickey works with the commercial and residential rental properties as well as our owner-occupied properties. He works closely with property management and department heads to ensure a smooth workflow and provide quality service to our customers and tenants.

  • April Comstock

    Accounts Payable / Administrative Support Clerk

    April has been with REAL Property Group and affiliated companies since 2000. She started out with the company in Merchandise Control Fulfillment. Currently she specializes in an Administrative Support capacity performing a variety of clerical tasks. Her strong multi-tasking skills are essential in coordinating front-desk activities, vendor relations and distributing correspondence. April’s attention to detail aids RPG in reviewing and verifying company financial data to be used by the Company’s accountants. April works directly with department heads and suppliers to ensure we provide a quality customer experience.
